what is a good online company for printing/enlarging digital photos?

I have a lot of beautiful scenic and architecture photos i have taken at 6 megapixels while traveling. I’d like to get them enlarged to around 12" x 15" and get them framed so i can adorn my house walls with them. I think it would make a neat personal gallery. Can someone recommend a good online company that does this?

Let me add to the list of people recommending Mpix. Go to http://www.mpix.com/productsinfo.aspx and browse the site and see what they offer.

David makes an excellent point about framing expense. If you want to "adorn the walls," you can end up breaking the bank with custom framing. I found, though, that you can learn to cut mats yourself and save a lot of money. I just did a show where I used a lot of 8×12 and 10×15 prints and put them into stock frames. The 8×12’s fit into 11×14 frames and the 10×15’s fit into 16×20 frames. These frames came with mats cut to fit much smaller prints so you could autograph the borders. I think the 11×14 had a 5×7 opening and the 16×20 had an 8×10 opening. I just recut the mats to the sizes I needed. These are not great photos, because that wasn’t the purpose, but here are the framed prints that I showed. You can even see that the mats in these autograph frames had a black background so it created a black outline around the photo. I got these frames at a half-price sale at Michael’s, so I paid something like $12 each for the smaller and $20 for the larger frames – with mats! A custom frame job for a 12×15 photo with a 3-4" mat border would cost $200 or more, as David said, and that’s if you keep it simple.

When I don’t print them out myself, I have them done at Costco… they have the best prices. Then I take them to Hobby Lobby or Michael’s and have them customly framed there… look out for sales, they often have 50% off or buy one get one free on their custom frames.

    Here is Costco’s photo site:

    And here are their prices:

You can upload your pics to their site and pick them up in a few hours or have them mailed to you.

Mpix is pretty good and reasonbly priced. I would suggest you print them at 11×14 and frame them yourself.
You should have no problem finding precut mats at Michaels that are 16×20 with an opening to fit 11×14 prints. Then you can buy a 16×20 frame. This will cost you between $30 and $60 dollars each. Depending on the frame you choose.

Custom framing will run you hundreds of dollars and really isn’t worth it. If you print in standard sizes there are ready made frames and matting available for a lot less money. Custom framing will probably cost you about $200 per frame.

I had a similar job as you a few months back and I used a new Canadian company called R&P Prints. I was very impressed with their incredible pricing and customer service and the convenience of ordering and paying online to have it delivered to my house. For odd jobs, you may have to contact them directly.
